Katarina Witt

  German former figure skater Katarina Witt was born on the 3rd of December in 1965. Witt was twice an Olympic champion is widely considered to be one of the top women's singles figure skaters. According to her Laureus profile, "she is most remembered for her athleticism and her charismatic attraction on the skating rink."



 



 Witt was the first to win an Olympic gold medal in East Germany in 1984 Sarajevo Olympics. Then she won another gold medal at the 1988 Calgary Olympics. Witt is among two women to have won the singles Olympic women's title. The other is Sonja Henie of Norway. Witt has been an all-time World Champion (1985, 1987 1988, 1987,) and twice she was a World silver medalist (1982 and 1986). Six straight European Championships (1983-1988) were won by Witt, an achievement that can only be matched by Sonja Henie, a female figure skater. Witt was among the best figure skaters from 1984 to 1988. She was awarded ten gold medals at 11 major international competitions.
