Handler grew up in a safe area and was a very happy child. Handler was 19 when she made the decision to relocate into Los Angeles and pursue acting. Handler worked as an actor in order to support her family. Handler at the time was 21, decided to focus on stand-up comedy as a full-time occupation after discovering her storytelling skills. Handler began her professional career becoming a member of the only female Oxygen group, who featured in a tv show called Girls Behaving Badly. This series was known for its hidden camera and practical joke. This show aired from 2002 to 2005. The handler began to appear on various other programs, including Weekends at D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler began working for The Tonight Show as a reporter. Handler had her biggest break in 2006, as she was named host on E! The Chelsea Handler Show. The show lasted during two consecutive seasons. Handler then followed up with appearing in the Comedy Central Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour, within the United States. VH1, Comedy Central Premium Blend (and HBO) have broadcast her live stand-ups. It was announced in 2010 that she was to host the MTV Video Music Awards 2010. In this way, she became only the second female to host the VMA's following Roseanne Barr.
